~ Chapter 12 | Bad Penny’s ~
Breakfast was pancakes, sausage, knowing glances from their friends and a stern stare from Victor. That was followed by questions, congratulations and “come take a walk with me boys, we need to talk” from Andrew. Chris felt like he was being led out back for his execution following Linc and Andrew out the back door. Having Victor take up the rear, as if to be sure no prisoners escaped, only heightened his anxiety level close to the point of no return.
The four of them walked down to the dock while Andrew and Victor took turns talking, Chris and Linc held hands and just listened. In the end Chris figured out that he got himself all worked up for nothing, Andrew and Victor were just concerned for them. They wanted to make sure Chris and Linc were taking their relationship to the next level for the right reasons, and sadly, were fully prepared to handle the fallout if things ended badly.
“Listen, we love you guys like you were our own, hell, you boys are probably the closest we will ever come to having children, we just worry about you is all,” Andrew said with one hand on Chris’s shoulder, the other on Linc’s. “Both of you have been through a lot in your young lives, I just want you both to be absolutely, one hundred and ten percent certain that you want to be with each other. A relationship is hard work guys, as hard as you think it is, you wind up wishing it were that easy.” Andrew stressed the word think.
Victor chimed in then, “And you are only beginning to understand who you are Chris, are you being certain you care for Linc as a lover, not just grabbing at first guy to make you want to be with him outside of work?” Andrew glared at his partner over his shoulder, Victor just shrugged.
“It’s okay Andrew, I get what Victor is saying and I appreciate you both caring about us enough to talk to us. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t scared shitless, but not for the reasons you might think. I’m not scared of being with Linc, I care about him a lot.” Chris wrapped an arm around Linc pulling him close and smiling at him. “I’m scared to open myself up again and take the risk of losing it all, again. But I’m more scared of being alone for the rest of my life. I promise you Victor, Linc and I have already talked about the lines blurring between work and life, and we both want to keep them separate. I’m sure it will be a challenge until we figure everything out, but we are willing to try, so I hope you’ll support that.”
Chris and Linc just stood, arms wrapped around each other, waiting for Victor to respond. Several long minutes passed while Victor stood stoically, arms crossed over his chest, just eyeing them, expressionless. Just when Chris thought his head might explode Victor smiled, “Okay.”
“That’s it? Okay??” Chris asked, raising one eyebrow and glaring at his employer.
“Take it and run with it,” Andrew whispered, smiling.
“I can hear you,” Victor grunted before turning and walking back up toward the house.
Victor and Andrew led the way holding hands while Chris and Linc followed just behind them with their pinkies locked, swinging their arms back and forth. Andrew looked back at them over his shoulder and laughed at the pinky finger holding. When they came around to the back of the house, Chris noticed a strange car was parked in the driveway. He felt Linc tense next to him when the tall, blonde guy that stood leaning against the side of the car pushed off the car and started walking toward them. Victor said something in Romanian that Chris assumed was a very bad word, since Victor usually only reverted back to his native tongue when he was frustrated, pissed off or cussing like a sailor.
Andrew pushed Victor up onto the porch, then dragged him the rest of the way into the house all while a continuous litany of Romanian floated across the yard. The tall blonde was walking toward them with a huge smile on his face until he looked down and saw Chris and Linc’s fingers laced together. Blondie stopped dead in his tracks, frowning, and then jerking his Ray-Bans off his face with such force, Chris was shocked they didn’t break.
“What the fuck Linc, who the hell is this?!” Spittle flew out of Blondies mouth and Chris almost shrank back behind Linc at the look of fury in the man’s brown eyes.
“Lance, Chris… Chris, Lance. Now that introductions have been made, my turn to ask the questions. What the fuck are you doing here and what do you want Lance?? I told you, we are done, finished, finito, over, dost thou comprehend?!” Linc looked like his head was ready to pop right off, his face had gone red, his jaw was locked and the hand that wasn’t currently cutting off Chris’s circulation rested at Linc’s side, balled in a fist.
Chris began connecting the dots then, this must be the ex, the one that couldn’t keep his dick in his pants. Chris didn’t get it, the guy was gorgeous, in a GQ model sort of way, but he was also brash and rude. The guy just didn’t fit with Linc.
Chris wrapped his arm around Linc and kissed him on the cheek, watching blondie flinch out of the corner of his eye. “I’m just going to give you two a minute. I’ll wait on the porch,” he whispered into Linc’s ear. Linc turned his head so he could see into Chris’s eyes and smiled, leaning up to kiss Chris on the lips and Chris could hear Blondie groan; it sounded like a wounded animal and the thought made Chris smile inside.
It took everything Chris had to keep putting one leg in front of the other when, as he walked away he heard Blondie say, “Linc, baby, please.” His steps faltered, but he managed to make his way to the screened in porch and collapse onto one of the chairs where he could still see what was happening.
“Don’t!” Linc jerked away from Blondie when he reached for him. “And do not call me baby, you gave that right away when you slept with Kory, asshole!” Linc took a step back, Blondie took a step forward, and Chris stood up and put his hand on the knob to open the screen door. If Lance laid so much as one finger on Linc, Chris would be out the door and on him in three seconds flat.
“Lincoln…”
“Mother fucker! If you call me that or baby one more goddamn time I’m going to knock your ass out right here on the grass, Lance. Stop. It. Why are you here?! I told you after Kory that I was done. Who the hell do you think…”
Lance cut Linc off by placing two fingers over his lips. Chris gripped the door knob so tight; he was shocked it didn’t disintegrate in his hand.
“Please Linc, just listen to me for a minute, please,” Blondie begged. Linc stared at him, fists clenched at his sides and Chris hoped Linc would just deck him, but instead his posture loosened a bit and Linc nodded. “Okay, I wanted to apologize. You know how they say you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone? Well I realize that now. I’m sorry Linc, I miss you, please just come home.”
Chris grimaced at the sincerity he heard in Lance’s voice, he wanted to argue his case as well but he respected Linc enough to stay where he was and let the two of them hash it out. Chris smiled when Linc took another step back, putting more distance between himself and blondie. “No!” was all Linc said.
Blondie snorted, “No?”
“That’s right Lance, no. You said what you came here to say and I listened. The answer is no, so you can be on your way now.” Linc looked down at his watch, “Better hurry so you can miss the rush.” And with that Linc turned and took two steps toward the porch, toward Chris. Chris smiled at Linc who returned the grin then flinched when Lance turned and grabbed Linc’s arm and hefted him back in front of him. That was it, Chris couldn’t take anymore, he threw the screen door open with such force that it slammed against the frame of the porch and landed at the bottom of the steps, feet never having touched any of them on the way down.
“I suggest you take your goddamn hands off him or I’ll do it for you, and you won’t like it if I have to do it for you,” Chris stated in a calm but firm tone that didn’t betray the anxiety he was feeling at the moment.
Lance turned to face him and snarled, gripping Linc’s shoulders tighter instead of releasing him. “Back off bitch, Linc is mine!” he growled and that, well that finally sent Linc over the edge and he jerked out of Lance’s hold. Since Lance had been
watching Chris approaching them, he missed the fist that was heading for his face, so when he turned his attention back to Linc, the punch hit him dead on.
While Chris watched the jerk, the draw back and the delivery in slow motion, what happened after moved at light speed. Lance fell to his knees, hands holding his nose while blood gushed out between his fingers. Chris grabbed Linc and pulled him into his arms, holding Linc’s face in his hands, “You okay?” he asked then jerked when he heard the question in surround sound. Victor and Andrew were standing on either side of them now and had asked the same question. Linc gave Chris a jerky nod then buried his head in Chris’s chest.
“You,” Victor snarled, “get your skinny ass off my lawn!” Lance crab walked backwards, eyes wide as Victor stalked closer toward him. Andrew grabbed Victors arm and held him back as Lance got to his feet. He ran over to his car and just before climbing in he sent one more jab at Linc, “This isn’t ober!” blood still gushing down his face, his eyes were wide and bloodshot, his previously pretty nose swollen and slightly crooked. Victor snorted, and crossed his arms over his chest again.
Chris remember something then, something his grandmother used to say to unwelcome guests as they were leaving her farm house, so he yelled it out at Lance. “Come back when you can’t stay so long!”
Linc and Andrew cracked up, but Victor, he just snorted again, his heavy breath rolling off his nostrils making him look like a bull ready to charge. “No, next time you call and I load shotgun!” he yelled at the tail lights that were speeding off away from the house.
When Victor turned around all three of them were doubled over laughing hysterically. Linc finally just fell on his ass on the ground, unable to laugh and stand at the same time anymore. Victor just glared at them as a puff of blonde smoke whirled past and landed in his arms, legs wrapped around his waist. “Oh my god, baby, are you okay?!” Mattie shrieked, wrapping his arms around Victor’s neck.
Once Mattie verified Victor was okay he climbed down and repeated the process with Andrew, finally making his way over to Linc and Chris where they sat on the ground, still giggling a bit. “Guys, you okay? That was Lance, wasn’t it? Oh my god, why was he here? Oh my god, I heard the commotion, I was getting out of the shower, and I got dressed and ran down here as fast as I could, oh my god, are you guys okay…” Chris fell back down onto the ground as another fit of laughter took over his body. Mattie was worked up like a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs. The little blonde’s eyes were darting around to each of them in turn, and he was gently patting them all on the arms, like he thought something may be broken.
They eventually made it into the house and sat at the table while Mattie retrieved the first aid kit for Linc’s hand, and bottles of beer and water for them to drink. Chris took the kit from Mattie and set to cleaning the blood off Linc’s knuckles, then started wrapping the now swollen digits with an ace bandage. And as if the talk with Andrew and Victor, followed by the unexpected visit from Linc’s ex weren’t enough to stomach so early in the day, Kory made his way down the stairs then, and boy if he wasn’t in rare form.
“Oh hey Linc, was that Lance I heard out front just now?” Kory purred, and all Chris wanted to do right then was choke the living shit out of him.
“Shut it Kory,” he said instead, still wrapping Linc’s hand.
“My bad,” Kory said defensively, hands raised in the air, “Just wanted to know if he was here to see me, or honest Abe.” He finished off the sentence with a sneer.
Chris stood up straight, closed his eyes and pinched the bridge of his nose. An exasperated sigh escaped his lips. “Shut. Up. Kory. I will seriously pay you right now to just shut the fuck up!” he barked.
Kory looked like he was about to protest but a nasty glare, the likes of which Chris had never seen grace those baby blues, crossed Andrew’s face and Kory retreated.
Once he was back up stairs and out of earshot Andrew leaned into Victor, whispering “I hate to do it babe, but if this behavior keeps up, we’re going to have to let him go. He’s pissed off at the world, and I’m not sure how much longer we can try to help someone that doesn’t seem to want the help.” The hateful glare from moments before was replaced with sorrow and worry. Victor pulled Andrew into his arms and wrapped him in a tight hug. Andrew was a softie, it was why a lot of the guys so lovingly called him Mom a lot. He could be fiercely protective of his awkward family, but he was usually very laid back and non-confrontational.
Chris finished wrapping Linc’s hand and the five of them started getting things ready for lunch as the rest of the guys that were staying in the house for the weekend made their way downstairs.
~ Chapter 13 | Sweet Home Alabama ~
The following week Chris and Linc were called into the principal’s office again, a stack of papers spread over the table that sat between the two chairs and the couch, much like the last meeting they had in the tiny attack room. As soon as Chris and Linc had sat down, Andrew looked their way and smiled. “This is a happy day guys, a very successful and happy day for our business, and do you want to know why?” Andrew asked them as his smile seemed to grow bigger, and brighter.
Chris just nodded his head. “As of about an hour ago we have our first video on the All Cocks site to hit one thousand downloads. And do you know what video that was?” Andrew asked. Again, Chris just nodded. He knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that the threesome they had shot was the video that had Andrew about to explode he was so happy. “That’s right Chris, the threesome video has been so popular, the likes of which we’ve never seen on the site.”
Once Victor joined them carrying a tray that held a bottle of champagne and five flute glasses, Chris already knew what was coming next. The last time they were here in the office was when the throuple had decided they were doing the threesome shoot. Now, fresh on the heels of that successful video, Chris could only assume that the same throuple had decided it was time for Kris and Linc to finally shoot a scene.
Victor popped the top off the bottle just as Mattie bounded into the room, waving a photo in the air and shrieking, “I’ve got it! We’ll do the scene on the boat!” he was so excited that his little body seemed to vibrate before them, unable to contain the excitement. Victor poured a generous amount of bubbly into each glass, and then passed them around before he settled back into his chair. Mattie climbed into his lap and downed his glass before Andrew could even finish the toast.
Andrew attempted a scowl, unsuccessfully of course, before tipping his glass back and sipping his drink while staring at the photo Mattie brought up with him. Sitting forward and flinging the picture onto the coffee table, Chris saw it indeed was a shot of their boat from the deck, the long wrap around couch decked out with red, white and blue pillows, the sun setting on the water in the background. “I agree,” Andrew finally said, as did Victor, Chris and Linc.
Over the next hour they talked about specifics for the shoot that would take place in two weeks’ time. They would take the boat out on the water early in the day to catch some stills of Chris and Linc as the sun rose, then hang out with the jet-ski and boogie board before taking more stills of the two men at sunset. Then the following day they’d head back out to a more secluded area to shoot the scenes for the video. Andrew wanted to put it out there that they were a couple trying to learn their way around the seedy online porn industry and still keeping true to their promise to each other. Chris and Lincoln agreed that the vulnerability that could be drawn out because of their situation would definitely grab viewers, so they agreed to the premise.
When they were done with the meeting, Chris sent Linc downstairs with Andrew and Mattie, staying behind to talk to Victor in private. “So, since neither Linc nor I have any shoots between now and the one we are going to do on the boat, can we have a week off?” Chris asked.
Victor just eyed him for a minute before he spoke, “I am agreeing that you two need some time, but I must ask, is everything okay?” Chris just smiled and nodded. “Okay, just
be back in time for the shoot and remember the three day rule.” Victor dismissed him with a wave toward the stairs.
Chris sprinted down the stairs and set out to find Linc, anxious to share his plan for a little unplanned vacay, just the two of them. He only hoped that once Linc learned where Chris wanted to go, he would still agree to accompany him.
***
Forty eight hours later they were touching down in Mobile, Alabama. The flight had been short but bumpy since a thunderstorm seemed to follow them since they left New York. Once they landed and made their way to baggage claim, and finally the rental car counter, Linc was dead on his feet. He didn’t even remember making it out to the car or to the hotel they were staying in for the night for that matter, he was so dog tired. Linc could have sworn they were still on the plane when he awoke the next morning. But there he was, tucked into a stale, musty hotel room bed with Chris wrapped around him.
They showered and left the room, grabbing a bagel and a cup of coffee from the hotel lobby before heading out to only god knows where, since Chris hadn’t shared the details of the trip with Linc aside from asking him to go, and telling Linc that it was time for him to say goodbye. When Chris first came back to Linc’s room that night after the meeting, he was distant and somber, only telling Linc that he’d asked Victor for a week off for both of them, and Victor had agreed. When Linc asked where they were going, Chris withdrew from him even further, and he could still feel the distance that had grown between them so fast, three days later.
